Akmal Rizal targets a top-three finish

Akmal Rizal Ahmad Rakhli has set Kedah FA a target of finishing in the top three of the A1 Semi-Pro League, matching or bettering last season’s third place.

“I want better achievements, in line with the KPIs set for me,” the head coach said. “God willing, we will make sure the results are more impressive.”

A largely local squad

Around 90 per cent of the squad is local, weighted towards young players and balanced by a core of experienced heads. Ghanaian midfielder Anthony Arthur is the first import through the door, with further additions assessed in defence and attack.

Building through pre-season

Kedah have lined up five friendlies before the league begins in late August, against both amateur and A1 opposition, and have already won the Sri Semantan Cup 2026 in Kota Bharu.

“The main objective is to see all players in action and following the planned tactics,” Akmal said. “Every player wants to be in the starting eleven.”
